Southern Utah NCWIT Aspirations- SUAIC

Southern Utah NCWIT Aspirations is also known as SUAIC. It is part of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), a national coalition of over 450 prominent corporations, academic institutions, and government agencies. There are 80 regional Aspirations programs (southern Utah being one of them). Every regional Aspirations in Computing includes an online competition and an award ceremony hosted by the regional affiliate. It targets high school girls from 9th-12th grade. The winners are selected (blind review) based on their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. All the applicants are also eligible to compete at a national level.  The NCWIT Aspirations provide a phenomenal network for technical women in computing and engineering who receive benefits such as private invitations to virtual and in-person meetups, visibility for technical achievements, computing outreach opportunities, hands-on activities for exploring computer science concepts, exclusive access to scholarships, internships, job opportunities, and more.

North Elementary Computer Club

Since 2012, Dr. Kesar has been volunteering to conduct a computer club at the North Elementary School in Cedar City, Utah. The club's goal is to create a fun and creative curriculum with hands-on activities for elementary children in 2nd to 5th grade. Recently, Dr. Kesar received a three year grant from Iron County School district to create a fourteen week computer club instead of a six week one. This also includes two undergraduate internships, which is a great opportunity for Southern Utah University students to receive experiential learning in improving teamwork, communication skills, leadership qualities, and real world experience.
